Jhansi Police are verifying the authenticity of a dashcam video circulating on social media that purportedly captures the fatal road accident involving Aban Ahmad, the youngest son of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, and have urged people not to share the footage until its genuineness is established.
The accident took place on August 6 under Poonch Police Station limits in Jhansi district. Aban, 21, was travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi with four others in a white Hyundai Creta to meet his elder brother Ali Ahmad, who is lodged in Jhansi jail.
According to police, the vehicle was travelling at high speed on the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway near Khilli village when the driver lost control. The SUV hit a concrete divider, overturned and was thrown into the air before landing back on the road.
Aban and his friend Sonu, 25, died at the spot. The three other occupants were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
The video, apparently recorded by a vehicle travelling behind the Creta, appears to show the moments before the crash, including the SUV swerving, striking the divider and being flung into the air.
Police said a detailed examination is underway to determine whether the footage is genuine and whether it accurately represents the sequence of events surrounding the accident.
In a video message and appeal posted on X, Jhansi Police asked the public not to circulate the clip until verification is complete. Officials warned that sharing unverified material could lead to misinformation and potentially affect the ongoing investigation into the accident.
Police teams from Poonch Police Station had reached the accident site after the crash and initiated rescue and investigation procedures. Further information will be released through official channels after the video is authenticated.
Aban was the youngest of Atiq Ahmad’s sons. Atiq Ahmad and his brother were shot dead in 2023, while another of his sons, Asad Ahmad, was killed in a police encounter the same year
