Shiromani Akali Dal (Rejuvenated) General Secretary and former All India Sikh Students Federation Secretary General Bhai Davinder Singh Sodhi has appealed to the office-bearers of Waris Punjab De, particularly Tarsem Singh, father of Bhai Amritpal Singh, to refrain from actions that could deepen divisions within the Panth and instead focus on strengthening Panthic unity.
Sodhi said some recent decisions of the organisation were disappointing, particularly when SAD (Rejuvenated) president Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh had shown openness and broad-mindedness in the larger interest of Panthic unity. He expressed regret that the initiative was allegedly being ridiculed rather than reciprocated.
He also objected to what he described as an attempt to pit families of martyrs against one another, saying such a policy was harmful to Panthic thinking.
Referring to the upcoming political contest in Bassi Pathana, Sodhi said Bibi Amrit Kaur, the only daughter of martyr Bhai Beant Singh, had been active in Punjab for a long time and was preparing to contest the election as an independent candidate. He said the decision to field Bhai Satwant Singh, son of martyr Bhai Kehar Singh, against her could further damage Panthic unity.
Sodhi warned that such developments could weaken Panthic thinking and potentially benefit anti-Panthic forces rather than contribute to the goal of establishing a Panthic government in Punjab.
He also expressed concern over alleged social media attacks on Panthic personalities. He claimed that an account operating under the name “Driver Baghel Singh” had been involved in the alleged character assassination of Panthic figures and said threats were now also being directed at members of martyr families, including Bhupinder Singh, brother of Shaheed Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda.
Sodhi appealed to all concerned to restrain such activities and resolve differences while maintaining respect for martyr families. He urged the Panth to prioritise unity in its larger interests.
