Veteran playback singer Kumar Sanu has revisited his musical association with composer Anu Malik, recalling the latter’s remarkable ability to create and present multiple versions of a song on the spot during their collaborations in the 1990s.
Sanu shared the memory during his appearance on ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 5’, where he praised Malik’s spontaneity and musical instinct.
Recalling their studio sessions, Sanu said, “Inke jitna instant koi gaana nahi bana sakta, maine dekha nahi hain. Agar ek gaana producer ko pasand nahi aata tha, toh ussi samay uss gaane ko 14-15 kisam mein gaake sunate the. Toh aap pasand karne pe majboor ho jaoge itna acha gaate hain.”
Sanu’s nostalgic recollection prompted host Haarsh Limbachiyaa to invite him to perform. Malik joined him enthusiastically, saying, “Dada, gaana toh banta hain!”
Sanu then performed his popular song ‘Sambhala Hai Maine’ from the 1994 film Naaraaz, earning appreciation on the show.
After the performance, Sanu again acknowledged Malik’s contribution to music during the 1990s. “Aap sochiye, iss tarah ka contribution uss samay 90s ke daur mein inhone bhar bhar ke diya hain, khali ek nahi, iss tarah ke kai gaano mein. This is not a very easy song; yeh ek kathin gaana hain,” he said.
The upcoming episode of Sony Entertainment Television’s ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 5’, themed ‘Great Grand Tashan’ under the broader theme ‘India Wala Dance’, will feature Anu Malik and Kumar Sanu. Contestants Ritesh and Prateek will also present performances during the episode.
The dance reality show airs every Saturday and Sunday on Sony Entertainment Television.
