More than 77,000 people continue to stay in relief camps across Assam as the flood situation remains under close watch, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday.
In a post on X, Sarma said the state government had intensified rehabilitation and restoration work across flood-affected areas while continuing relief efforts.
“More than 77,000 people continue to be sheltered in relief camps as the situation remains under close watch,” the Chief Minister said.
The latest update underlines the scale of the continuing humanitarian challenge, with thousands of flood-affected residents still dependent on government-run camps for shelter and essential assistance.
The state administration and district authorities are carrying out relief and rescue operations in affected areas. Officials are also monitoring water levels in major rivers and the condition of embankments in vulnerable locations amid the possibility of further deterioration in some areas.
Alongside immediate relief measures, the government has stepped up efforts to restore roads, communication links and other essential infrastructure disrupted by the floods.
Sarma has been regularly reviewing and sharing updates on the flood situation and the response measures being undertaken by the state government. He said rehabilitation and restoration efforts would be accelerated wherever required.
The floods have affected several districts of Assam this season, disrupting homes, livelihoods and public infrastructure. With more than 77,000 people still in relief camps, rehabilitation and the safe return of displaced families remain key priorities for the administration as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
