India captain Shreyas Iyer expressed his delight after his team secured a dominant 90-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday, saying the comprehensive performance was the result of contributions from every player.
India sealed the three-match series with an unassailable 2-0 lead after posting a massive 219/5 and bowling Zimbabwe out for 129. Iyer described the win as a complete team effort and said he felt “exultant” with the manner in which the victory was achieved.
“I feel exultant, especially with the way we won today. It was a comprehensive victory and a brilliant contribution from each and every player,” Iyer said after the match.
He praised the performances of Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, whose attacking half-centuries laid the foundation for India’s imposing total. Kishan scored 81 off 44 balls, while Varma remained unbeaten on 60 off 29 deliveries.
Iyer said he initially felt a score between 180 and 200 would be competitive but credited the batters for pushing India beyond the 220-run mark.
The skipper also lauded the bowlers for maintaining discipline and executing their plans effectively to restrict Zimbabwe to just over 120 runs.
Speaking about the team’s aggressive approach, Iyer said the young players have been encouraged to focus on the present and make the most of every opportunity rather than carrying the burden of previous performances.
“Don’t dwell too much on previous performances. Keep moving forward and, more importantly, stay in the present,” he said.
With the third T20I being a dead rubber, Iyer said the team management would consider changes, especially after fast bowler Prince Yadav suffered a hamstring injury during the match.
“Let’s see. We haven’t decided yet… unfortunately, one of our players picked up an injury, so there could be a couple of changes,” he added.
