In a significant development linked to the ongoing probe against former Punjab minister and senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, his brother-in-law Gajpat Singh Grewal failed to appear before the Punjab Vigilance Bureau despite being summoned. Authorities have now issued fresh summons directing him to appear on September 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Vigilance Bhawan, Sector-68, Mohali.
According to official sources, the summons were issued as part of the investigation in FIR No. 22/2025 registered at Police Station VB, FS-1, Mohali. Grewal had earlier been called to join the probe on September 15, but failed to do so without citing any reason. Following this, the Investigating Officer exercised powers under Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, to ensure his presence.
Context: The Majithia Case
Majithia, a senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader, was arrested on June 25, 2025 by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau and is presently lodged in Nabha Jail. He faces a high-profile disproportionate assets case, with investigators alleging that he amassed wealth of more than ₹500 crore through benami transactions, shell firms, and foreign links. The Bureau has already filed a 40,000-page charge sheet supported by the testimonies of over 200 witnesses.
Legal experts note that Gajpat Singh Grewal’s testimony may hold importance in the investigation, and failure to appear could attract further legal consequences.
