The FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 begins on Saturday, with the Indian men’s and women’s teams aiming for strong campaigns as Belgium and the Netherlands jointly host the tournament.
The competition will run from August 15 to 30, with matches being played at the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands, and the Belfius Arena in Wavre, Belgium. All of India’s matches in the opening phase are scheduled at the Wagener Stadium.
India Men’s Schedule
The Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian men’s team has been drawn in Pool D alongside England, Pakistan and Wales.
- August 15: India vs Wales — 4:30 pm IST
- August 17: India vs England — 6:30 pm IST
- August 19: India vs Pakistan — 6:30 pm IST
The India-Pakistan fixture is expected to be among the most eagerly awaited matches of the opening phase, although India will first face Wales and England.
India are seeking their first men’s World Cup title since their 1975 triumph. The team also won silver in 1973 and bronze in 1971. India have recently added Olympic bronze medals from Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.

The Indian women’s team is also in Pool D, alongside China, South Africa and England.

India’s best finish at the women’s World Cup remains fourth place at the inaugural edition in 1974. The team enters the 2026 tournament after winning gold in the Pro League and will target its first World Cup medal.
