Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has condemned the firing outside the Amritsar residence of former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh, and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Randhawa described the incident as deeply concerning, saying that firing outside the residence of a prominent religious figure raises serious questions about the law-and-order situation in Punjab.
He said the reported increase in such incidents had created a sense of insecurity among ordinary citizens and raised concerns about the safety of religious and social figures. If gunfire could take place outside the home of a respected religious leader, he said, it called into question the effectiveness of the police administration.
Randhawa demanded an immediate, impartial and high-level investigation into the incident. He called for the identification and prompt arrest of those responsible, saying that any individual or conspiracy found to be behind the incident must be dealt with strictly according to law.
He asserted that maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens must remain the foremost responsibility of the Punjab government and police administration.
Randhawa also condemned the Haryana Police’s alleged lathi-charge on Sikh protesters in Ambala during a demonstration held on Wednesday night.
He said the protesters were seeking the release of two Sikh youths and registration of a case against the accused. Randhawa demanded that Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini clarify the government’s position on the incident.
He further called for action against those who ordered and carried out the alleged lathi-charge and demanded justice for the Sikh youths.
