Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the achievements of the Indian-American community across diverse fields and said its enduring connection with India’s cultural heritage remains a source of strength for the country.
In a message to the National Alliance of Indian Organizations (NAIO), Modi said celebrations of India’s 80th Independence Day alongside the 250th anniversary of the United States reflected the close ties between the two democracies.
“It is heartening to know that India’s 80th Independence Day and the United States of America’s 250th Anniversary are being celebrated by the National Alliance of Indian Organizations (NAIO),” the Prime Minister said in his message dated August 13.
He said the joint commemorations highlighted the values shared by India and the US.
“The celebrations highlight the close ties between India and the United States, which are rooted in our shared democratic values,” Modi said.
He also highlighted the strong relationship between India and its diaspora, describing the bond between “Maa Bharati” and Indians living abroad as a source of strength for the country.
Modi said the Indian-American community had earned recognition through its contributions to science, technology, education, public service and the arts, while continuing to remain connected with India’s cultural heritage.
“The vibrant Indian-American community has earned appreciation through its achievements in diverse fields such as science, technology, education, public service and the arts,” he said.
“At the same time, it has remained closely connected with India’s rich cultural heritage,” he added.
The Prime Minister also underlined the role of diaspora organisations in preserving Indian traditions and strengthening community ties, particularly among younger generations.
“Diaspora organisations play an important role in keeping our traditions alive and fostering community spirit,” Modi said. “They also encourage younger generations to stay connected with their roots.”
He extended his best wishes to NAIO for its commemorative programme and acknowledged the wider contribution of the Indian-American community to the US economy, schools, healthcare system, businesses and local communities.
“Best wishes to NAIO for the grand success of India’s Independence Day 2026 and the United States of America’s 250th Anniversary celebrations,” Modi said.
