A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men posing as policemen at a park near Delhi’s Kalkaji Mandir, officials said on Tuesday. One of the accused has been apprehended following an encounter with police, while efforts are underway to trace the other two.
According to officials, the girl and her friend visited Kalkaji Mandir at around 7 p.m. on Monday. After offering prayers, the two went to a nearby park at around 7:30 p.m.
The three accused, aged around 25 to 30 years, allegedly approached them while claiming to be policemen. Police said the men threatened the two girls before allegedly sexually assaulting the 17-year-old.
A PCR call regarding the incident at the park near Kalkaji Mandir and the ISKCON Temple was received at around 8:45 p.m. A police team subsequently reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
One of the accused, identified as Asif, was later apprehended following an encounter with police. Officials said he sustained a gunshot wound and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police teams are conducting searches to locate the remaining two accused, while further investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.
The incident comes days after a sixth-grade girl was allegedly sexually assaulted inside a shop in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar area.
According to police, the girl had gone out to purchase stationery on September 16 when she was allegedly lured into a nearby shop by a shopkeeper, who restrained and sexually assaulted her. Police received a PCR call that night and arrested the accused, identified as 56-year-old Maqsood. He was subsequently sent to judicial custody after due legal procedure.
Earlier, on September 13, police reported the gang rape and murder of a teenage girl in Delhi allegedly involving four persons, including three juveniles. Police said the accused later abandoned the victim’s body in an open area.
The severely decomposed body was found near a field along Kushak Road in North Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area. Police initially could not establish the victim’s gender because of the condition of the remains. Following the investigation, four persons, including three juveniles, were arrested in connection with the case.
