All India Muslim Jamaat national president Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi has accused Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav of adopting what he described as a “soft Hindutva” approach ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Speaking to IANS on Tuesday, Razvi alleged that Yadav’s political efforts were focused on returning to power and claimed that this was influencing the SP chief’s approach towards issues concerning the Muslim community.
“All of Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav’s efforts and struggles are aimed at capturing power in 2027; he is desperate to secure the seat of authority by any means,” Razvi said.
He alleged that Yadav was therefore leaning towards “soft Hindutva” and remaining silent on issues concerning Muslims.
Razvi also accused the SP leadership of assuming that Muslim voters had no political alternative and would eventually return to the party. He claimed that this mindset had contributed to what he described as the party’s distancing from the Muslim community.
The cleric cited several issues on which he alleged that Yadav had not taken a clear public position, including the Babri Masjid issue, the Gyanvapi Mosque dispute in Varanasi, the Shahi Idgah Mosque controversy in Mathura, developments in Sambhal and the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
He further alleged that the SP chief had remained silent on issues involving the demolition of religious structures and the use of bulldozers against mosques and madrasas.
“Occasionally, according to his (Akhilesh’s) mood, he might have posted something from the comfort of his room, but nothing more than that,” Razvi said, reiterating his allegation that Yadav was pursuing a “soft Hindutva” approach.
Razvi claimed that Yadav was now seeking Hindu votes and believed that he did not need Muslim voters. He also predicted that the SP chief’s political ambitions would be unsuccessful in the 2027 elections.
Earlier, the All India Muslim Jamaat chief had described Akhilesh Yadav as an “agent of the BJP” and accused him of “mocking” the BJP-led alliance in Uttar Pradesh.
The remarks are political allegations made by Razvi and reflect his stated assessment of the Samajwadi Party’s approach ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
