Delhi Police have apprehended one accused following an encounter in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl at Aastha Kunj Park in south Delhi’s Kalkaji area, while two other persons are being questioned, police said on Tuesday.
The incident allegedly took place on Monday evening at the park, located near Kalkaji Temple.
Joint Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar, Police Commissioner’s Secretariat-cum-Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Delhi Police chief, said police received a PCR call regarding the minor girl, who had come from Faridabad with a male friend, also a minor.
According to the police, the two had first visited a temple before going to Aastha Kunj Park, which is relatively secluded. There, they allegedly encountered three men who introduced themselves as police personnel and used language resembling that of police officers and lawyers.
The men allegedly threatened the two minors with police action, caught hold of the boy and allegedly gang-raped the girl, Kumar said, adding that the complaint was received from the girl.
The minor has undergone a medical examination, police said.
One of the accused, identified as Asif, was apprehended after a police encounter on Tuesday morning, Kumar said.
“Two more people have emerged, and they are also being questioned. Further investigation into the matter is underway. Other arrests in the case will also be made soon,” he said.
The two persons being questioned have been identified as Hemant and his brother. Police have not disclosed the brother’s identity.
Kumar said Hemant had claimed to have studied law, while his brother claimed to be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree. Police are verifying the claims as part of the investigation.
Asked whether the two men being questioned were friends of Asif, the officer said the matter was under investigation.
Police said the investigation was being conducted in a fair and transparent manner and that further action would follow based on the evidence gathered.
