Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled six alleged illegal arms supply networks with the arrest of eight persons and recovery of 13 pistols and 23 live cartridges, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gurdeep Singh alias Deep, 24, and Dharminder Singh alias Bhinda, 34, both residents of Rangarh village in Amritsar Rural; Amit, 23, of Guru Ki Wadali; Harpreet Singh alias Happy Niana, 26, of Narayangarh; Chamkaur Singh, 30, of Waan Tara Singh in Tarn Taran; Karanpreet Singh, 22, of Noordi in Tarn Taran; Gaurav, 26, of Katra Karam Singh; and Varun Kumar alias Vicky Gill, 33, of Bhai Manj Singh Road in Amritsar.
The recovered weapons include two .30-bore Zigana pistols manufactured in Turkey, two .30-bore pistols made in China, one 9mm pistol and eight other .30-bore pistols. Police also impounded an Activa scooter allegedly used in the smuggling activities.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation had allegedly established links between the arrested persons and foreign-based smugglers. According to the police, the accused were procuring illegal weapons for further distribution and use in criminal activities.
Police have also identified links between the arrested persons and other alleged associates involved in the arms supply network. Further investigation is underway to establish the wider backward and forward linkages and identify additional persons involved.
Commissioner of Police Amritsar Harmanbir Singh Gill said Gurdeep Singh and Dharminder Singh were arrested with two pistols and seven live cartridges.
In three separate operations, police arrested Amit, Harpreet Singh alias Happy and Chamkaur Singh and recovered three pistols and live cartridges from their respective possessions.
During a routine naka checking, Karanpreet Singh was apprehended with one pistol and six live cartridges. In another operation, Varun Kumar alias Vicky Gill and Gaurav were arrested with one pistol and four live cartridges, the CP said.
Six separate FIRs have been registered in connection with the recoveries. These include FIR Nos. 213 dated September 15, 2026, 215 dated September 16, 2026, and 219 dated September 19, 2026, under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Chheharta; FIR No. 247 dated August 23, 2026, under Section 25 at Police Station Gate Hakima; FIR No. 205 dated September 21, 2026, under Section 25(8) at Police Station Sultanwind; and FIR No. 164 dated September 21, 2026, under Section 25 at Police Station D-Division in Amritsar.
CP Harmanbir Singh Gill said further investigation was in progress.
