Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab spokesperson Neetu Kapoor Singla on Tuesday sought answers from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and opposition parties over allegations raised by a woman from Bahrain, particularly regarding her reported six-month stay at an SGPC sarai.
Singla said she was not seeking to declare anyone guilty but wanted clarity on the circumstances of the woman’s stay, including who brought her to the sarai, who facilitated her accommodation and who arranged her travel and expenses.
“If all this happened to a woman at an SGPC sarai, who was responsible for her there? Who brought her there? How did she stay there for six months? Who arranged her stay, her ticket and her expenses?” Singla asked.
She said an FIR had been registered against SGPC and SAD member Amarjit Singh Chawla in connection with allegations including rape, wrongful confinement and threats.
Singla also questioned SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami over the woman’s reported complaint to him and asked what action was taken after she allegedly approached him.
Targeting SAD leader and MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Singla questioned her silence on the matter, referring to her recent participation in protests concerning women’s issues. She also sought responses from SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Singla further questioned Congress and BJP leaders, including Punjab Congress president Raja Warring, BJP leader Sunil Jakhar and Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, over their alleged silence on the issue.
She also sought clarification regarding the alleged role of other SAD and SGPC-linked individuals, including Youth Akali Dal leader Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer and Virsa Singh Valtoha, particularly concerning the woman’s arrival from Bahrain and her stay.
Calling for a transparent investigation, Singla said the issue should not be reduced to political allegations and counter-allegations and that the questions surrounding the woman’s stay and the allegations should be answered.
She said those found responsible for any wrongdoing should be held accountable, adding that the woman should receive justice through due process.
