Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) Joint General Secretary Surendra Jain on Tuesday welcomed the submission of a 105-page chargesheet report in the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft case and claimed that some people were opposing Lord Ram for political reasons.
Jain said the Supreme Court had expressed satisfaction with the report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing alleged financial irregularities involving donations and offerings at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya.
He reiterated that the Uttar Pradesh government had informed the Supreme Court that the SIT had completed its investigation and would file the chargesheet within two days.
Jain also said the Supreme Court had noted that some information about valuable items reported in the media was incorrect.
“Those items were safe too. Receipts of some of these items could not be obtained, but they are safe, and some of the receipts are under process,” he said.
Claiming that most of the allegations made in the matter were false, Jain said anyone with further information or concerns should approach the SIT. He also maintained that the investigation was still ongoing and that appropriate action should be taken against those found guilty.
Jain alleged that claims of Rs 20,000 crore being looted were based on false information or vested interests and said those who made such claims should apologise.
At the same time, he urged people to continue sharing information or raising questions before the investigating agency, saying that the accused should be punished if wrongdoing was established.
Jain also criticised attempts to make the matter a political issue, saying that religious faith should not be used for electoral or political agendas. He acknowledged that “some things did indeed go wrong” and said necessary action would be taken.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo also backed the SIT investigation, saying the extent of the alleged theft was concerning and that stealing from a temple was shameful.
Deo said claims that billions of rupees had been looted were incorrect, while maintaining that the alleged thefts, though smaller in scale, remained serious. He expressed confidence that the SIT would identify those responsible and that the guilty would be punished.
The Supreme Court had earlier directed the Uttar Pradesh government to reconstitute the SIT investigating the alleged irregularities and ensure a fair, speedy and qualitative probe.
The reconstituted SIT is headed by Inspector General of Police Kiran S., with Ayodhya Deputy Inspector General of Police Somen Verma and Ayodhya Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover as members.
The allegations concerning the temple donations and offerings remain subject to the ongoing investigation and due legal process.
