Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Tuesday inspected ongoing development works in Tash and Makhanpur areas of the Bhoa Assembly constituency adjoining the India-Pakistan border and directed officials to ensure timely completion of projects with quality materials.
During his visit, Kataruchak reviewed the construction of the main road connecting Tash with Makhanpur and Makhanpur with Kohliya Adda. He sought details from officials and the contractor regarding the progress of the work.
The minister said the Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was undertaking road construction and other infrastructure projects in the border areas on a priority basis.
He said the width of the Tash-Makhanpur-Kohliya Adda road, which was earlier around 10 feet, is being increased to 18 feet.
According to Kataruchak, the widening of the road would improve connectivity for residents of the border belt and make transportation of agricultural produce easier for farmers.
He said the narrow road had created difficulties for farmers while transporting crops, particularly sugarcane and other agricultural produce, to markets. The expanded carriageway, he added, would facilitate smoother movement of vehicles and agricultural goods.
Kataruchak directed the contractor to complete the construction within the stipulated timeframe and ensure that there was no compromise on the quality of the work.
He stressed that only quality construction material should be used so that the infrastructure remains durable and provides long-term benefit to residents.
The minister said the road project would be completed shortly and opened for public use. He added that the state government was working continuously to improve infrastructure and basic amenities in Punjab’s border areas.
Makhanpur Sarpanch Manga, Dera Basti Makhanpur Sarpanch Gurmej Singh, Subedar Sohan Makhanpur, Amrik Singh, Lovely Manjiri and other local residents were present during the visit.
