The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government has described recent Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia as a “dangerous escalation”, warning that the group’s actions pose a direct threat to the kingdom’s security.
Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki said the Houthi group’s attempts to target Saudi Arabia, its national assets, citizens and residents reflected what he called a “hostile and irresponsible approach”.
In a post on X, Al-Maliki said the latest attacks targeted civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, injuring 73 civilians, including women and children, according to Xinhua News Agency.
He said the attacks violated Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and directly threatened the safety and security of citizens and residents.
Al-Maliki added that the coalition’s Joint Forces Command would take necessary operational measures to deter the Houthis, respond to the sources of threats and neutralise the danger posed by them.
The Houthis, meanwhile, claimed on Tuesday that they had targeted multiple sites in Saudi Arabia, including Abha International Airport, King Khalid Air Base and facilities belonging to state-owned oil company Aramco in Abha and Jizan. The claims were carried by Houthi-run media outlet Ansarollah.
The latest exchange follows accusations by the Houthis on Monday that Saudi Arabia had carried out airstrikes and cruise missile attacks across several Yemeni provinces as fighting between the group and government forces intensified across multiple fronts.
Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV reported that Saudi forces targeted Al-Jawf, Al-Bayda, Marib and Taiz with several airstrikes and cruise missiles. It did not provide details of casualties or damage.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea also claimed that the group had shot down a Saudi CH-4 reconnaissance drone over the Khabb wa ash-Sha’af district in northern Yemen’s Al-Jawf province on Monday.
The latest developments reflect a renewed escalation in the long-running conflict in Yemen, with attacks and counterattacks reported across multiple fronts.
