At least six unidentified bodies were recovered from two locations in Balochistan’s Mastung district, raising concerns that they could be linked to Baloch youths previously reported missing after alleged enforced disappearances.
According to Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ), the bodies were recovered on Sunday and bore signs of torture. The rights organisation said they were removed from the area several hours later under the supervision of police official Abdul Rauf Baloch and taken to a hospital.
The BVJ said the bodies were subsequently transported to Quetta but later brought back and dumped at the same location along the main highway. A few hours later, they were reportedly loaded into a Zambad vehicle and taken to an unidentified location.
The development came amid reports of a drone strike by Pakistani forces in the Khadkocha area of Mastung. Local media, citing sources, reported that at least three people, including a child, were injured when the strike hit the Garro area on Sunday. The injured were taken to Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Raisani Hospital for treatment.
The reported military action has heightened concerns among local communities and rights organisations over the humanitarian impact of intensified security measures and movement restrictions in the region.
The Balochistan Post reported that several parts of Mastung have also witnessed alleged aerial and drone strikes by Pakistani forces, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries.
The BVJ alleged that civilians, particularly young people, are being forcibly disappeared from homes, educational institutions and public roads and taken to secret detention facilities, where they are subjected to torture. It further alleged that some missing persons are killed in custody and their deaths subsequently presented as staged encounters.
The rights group called on the United Nations and international human rights organisations to conduct an immediate and transparent investigation into the six bodies, establish their identities and determine whether they were among people previously reported forcibly disappeared.
