Amritsar Rural Police has busted a cross-border narcotics and illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of two persons and the recovery of 15 illegal pistols and 5 kg of heroin, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.
The arrests were made as part of the ongoing drive to strengthen security and curb drug and arms trafficking in the state, being carried out on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The accused have been identified as Deepak Singh, a resident of Rorawala Khurd, and Shubhpreet Singh alias Shubh, a resident of Verka-Majitha Bypass in Amritsar.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation indicated that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers and were receiving consignments of illegal arms and drugs for further distribution in the region as directed by them.
He said further investigation was underway to establish the complete forward and backward linkages of the network, identify other persons involved and dismantle the wider illegal arms and narcotics trafficking operation.
Sharing details of the operation, IGP Border Range Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said police teams from Gharinda Police Station had received reliable information that two persons allegedly involved in the smuggling of illegal pistols and heroin were moving in the Attari area.
Acting on the information, a police team set up a checkpoint at the Dhussi Bandh T-point on Attari-Jhabal Road and intercepted two suspected persons travelling on an Activa scooter.
During frisking, police recovered 15 pistols and 5 kg of heroin from Shubhpreet Singh and Deepak Singh, who was riding pillion, Bhullar said.
SSP Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said interrogation of the two arrested accused had led to the identification of two more persons allegedly involved in the module.
Police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the two identified suspects, he said.
A case, FIR No. 388 dated September 6, 2026, has been registered at Gharinda Police Station, Amritsar Rural, under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25(8) of the Arms Act.
