Smartphone maker realme has announced the realme 16 Pro 5G Harry Potter Edition in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, bringing elements of the popular wizarding franchise to an everyday technology product.
The latest special edition is part of a broader trend in the smartphone industry, where brands are increasingly using entertainment, culture and fandom to differentiate products as hardware and features become more comparable across price segments.
These collaborations often extend beyond exterior design, incorporating themed packaging, accessories, wallpapers, software interfaces, charging animations, sounds and other elements of the user experience.
realme has explored the special-edition segment through collaborations with brands and entertainment franchises including Coca-Cola, Naruto, Thor and Game of Thrones, besides partnerships linked to motorsport.
The realme 10 Pro 5G Coca-Cola Edition, for instance, featured a red-and-black design along with customised software elements, charging effects, sounds and themed packaging. The realme GT NEO 3 Naruto Edition incorporated references to the anime franchise across its design, packaging, accessories and software.
The company has also developed entertainment-themed devices, including the Thor: Love and Thunder Limited Edition, which featured movie-inspired packaging, collectibles, wallpapers and accessories. The realme 15 Pro 5G Game of Thrones Limited Edition incorporated House Targaryen-inspired design elements, a themed user interface and collectibles.
Beyond entertainment franchises, realme has partnered with the Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team across its smartphone portfolio. Devices including the realme GT 7 Dream Edition and realme GT8 Pro Dream Edition brought elements of the racing team’s identity into their design and branding.
Against this backdrop, the realme 16 Pro 5G Harry Potter Edition marks the company’s latest move into pop-culture collaborations. It is also realme’s second partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, following the realme 15 Pro Game of Thrones Limited Edition.
The Harry Potter franchise has remained a major part of global popular culture for more than 25 years, building a multi-generational fan base through books, films, games, stage productions, consumer products and immersive experiences.
For the new edition, realme has incorporated design elements inspired by the Harry Potter universe while retaining the brand’s contemporary design language. The two companies have also developed an exclusive co-branded logo for the special edition.
The collaboration is aligned with realme’s “Make it real” brand philosophy, which focuses on young consumers and aims to extend the appeal of its products beyond core functionality.
realme said it has a global community of more than 300 million users and plans to further expand its crossover portfolio through partnerships combining technology with creative storytelling.
The Harry Potter Edition adds another entertainment and lifestyle-focused product to realme’s growing portfolio, bringing the identity of the wizarding world into a smartphone designed for its global fan community.
