Congress MP and Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday expressed grief over the death of Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh and demanded justice for the 54-year-old, who allegedly died after being assaulted following a dispute over noise outside his South Delhi residence.
Gogoi paid tribute to Singh in a post on X and said the entire Northeast stood with his family.
“He (Chongtham Vikram Singh) was a humble soul with no ego, no animosity, just a peaceful soul who loved music. He was one of those rare people who would do it all, yet receive acknowledgement from almost no one,” Gogoi wrote.
“Rest in peace. May you get justice. The entire northeast prays for your family,” he added.
Singh, a musician from Manipur, was allegedly assaulted after objecting to noise outside his residence in South Delhi. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Gogoi’s remarks came amid growing concern over the circumstances surrounding Singh’s death and renewed attention to the safety of people from the Northeast living in the national capital.
In his tribute, the Congress leader highlighted Singh’s gentle personality and contribution to music, portraying him as someone who avoided conflict and remained devoted to his art.
The musician’s death has triggered grief among members of the Manipuri and wider Northeast communities, with calls for justice and a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the alleged assault.
The police investigation is expected to establish the sequence of events, including the circumstances of the dispute outside Singh’s residence and the alleged involvement of those present at the scene.
