Amritsar Soormas kept their Sher-E-Punjab T20 League semifinal hopes alive with a four-wicket victory over Fazilka Falcons at the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Monday.
Fazilka Falcons, led by Shubman Gill, posted 191/6 after being sent in to bat. The Falcons were in early trouble at 20/2 before Gill and Pranshu Pratap steadied the innings with a 72-run partnership for the third wicket.
Gill led the recovery with an aggressive 67 off 35 balls, striking the ball cleanly before his dismissal. Pranshu then continued to anchor the innings, adding 40 off 33 deliveries, while Sanvir Singh provided a late surge with a quick 40 off 21 balls.
The Falcons finished on 191/6 in their 20 overs. For Amritsar, Mayank Markande was economical with the ball, conceding only 26 runs in his four overs despite going wicketless.
Chasing 192, Amritsar made an explosive start as Abhishek Sharma and Sahaj Dhawan put the Fazilka bowlers under pressure. The opening pair added 79 runs before Sharma was dismissed for a rapid 49 off just 15 balls.
Dhawan kept the chase moving, but Amritsar subsequently lost wickets at regular intervals and slipped to 152/5, bringing Fazilka back into the contest.
Rahul Kumar then took charge alongside Reaven Preet Singh, focusing on keeping the required run rate under control. Reaven scored eight off four balls before being dismissed, leaving Amritsar needing 16 runs for victory.
Rahul remained composed and completed a crucial half-century before finishing unbeaten on 53 off 35 balls. His knock ensured that Amritsar suffered no further setbacks and reached the target with four wickets in hand.
The victory keeps Amritsar Soormas in contention for a place in the semifinals of the Punjab Kings-powered Sher-E-Punjab T20 League.
