Russia Open to Resuming Trilateral Talks on Ukraine: Kremlin

Moscow, September 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Russia has not ruled out the possibility of resuming trilateral negotiations on the Ukraine conflict, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday, signalling that Moscow remains open to reviving the three-way format involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States.

“As for the resumption of the trilateral format, you heard the statements from Kyiv yesterday. Mr. Kushner made such statements. We also do not rule out the resumption of this trilateral format,” Peskov said during an official briefing.

The remarks came after Russian President Vladimir Putin met US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the Kremlin on Saturday. The meeting lasted more than three hours, following which Witkoff and Kushner travelled to Kyiv and met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday.

Peskov described the meeting between Putin and the US envoys as a small step towards peace.

“Of course, any attempts are more or less effective — this is one small step towards peace,” he said.

The Kremlin spokesperson also left open the possibility of another conversation between Putin and US President Donald Trump following the US envoys’ visit to Kyiv. He said Russia highly appreciates the efforts being made towards peace.

Delegations from Ukraine, the US and Russia had previously held two rounds of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24 and February 4-5, followed by another round in Geneva from February 17-18. The negotiations were aimed at finding a pathway to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict but subsequently stalled and remain suspended.

Meanwhile, Kyiv is preparing new restrictions on mass gatherings amid a worsening security situation.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Monday that restrictions on mass events would come into effect from Thursday. Entertainment, physical education and sports activities will be temporarily prohibited in open areas and in buildings without shelters, he said.

Earlier, the Kyiv City State Administration said authorities were increasing reserves of food and drinking water in preparation for possible prolonged power outages and other emergencies.
