Independent artist Sargam Vaish has accused the makers of Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia-starrer Vvan of using a portion of his song Aigiri Nandini in the film’s recently released trailer without his permission.
In a video posted on his official Instagram account on Monday, Sargam claimed that the makers had used around 25 seconds of his song without authorisation.
“I have been working on a project for three years, and one song from that has been used in the film Vvan’s trailer that was recently released, without my permission,” Sargam said.
He identified the portion as appearing from 1:08 to 1:33 in the trailer and alleged that the makers had used his master file, production and vocals without alteration.
Sargam also warned of legal action if the song was not removed from the trailer and the film.
“I have signed a deal with a big label; if that is affected, they will be responsible for this. Kindly remove the song from your trailer and the movie; otherwise, my legal team will take care of it,” he said.
As the post gained attention on social media, artist and CBFC member Ricky Kej questioned how the makers could have accessed the recording if it had not yet been released.
“How did they get access to your master recording when you had not released it yet?” Kej asked in the comments section.
Responding to Kej, Sargam said the song had already been given to another major film and remained unreleased. He said the recording somehow reached the Vvan project through another circle and was used before the original project.
The artist added that understanding how the unreleased recording reached the film was also the issue he was seeking to clarify.
Vvan, helmed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Arunabh Kumar, stars Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia. The film is slated to release in theatres on September 25.
