Comedian Samay Raina turned a formal felicitation by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis into a light-hearted moment by joking about his past interactions with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell over his show India’s Got Latent.
Raina was honoured at a Maharashtra Cyber awareness event in Mumbai for contributing to a short film titled Digital Arrest and the “1930 Maharashtra Cyber Anthem”. The event focused on raising public awareness about cybercrime and digital fraud.
Referring to his previous run-in with the cyber authorities, Raina told the gathering, “Maharashtra cyber and I go way back,” prompting laughter from Fadnavis and other attendees.
He also joked about the cyber cell’s efficiency and said, “The Maharashtra Cyber Cell is very active. I can tell you this for sure. Today, for the first time a cyber cell officer picked up a comedian from his home only to felicitate him.”
Raina further joked that he had already saved the cyber helpline number 1930 on his phone because he had received calls from the authorities during the India’s Got Latent controversy.
“Thank you for the felicitation, sir. My association with Maha Cyber has been going on for a very long time. 1930 is really a great number. I have actually saved it because I often get calls from there,” he said.
The number 1930 is the national cybercrime helpline used for reporting cyber fraud. The Maharashtra Cyber event also featured several other prominent artists who contributed to the awareness campaign.
Raina had faced scrutiny from Maharashtra Cyber in connection with complaints arising from controversial content on India’s Got Latent. The show returned for a second season in June 2026 and is being streamed simultaneously on Netflix and YouTube.
Raina began performing at open mics in 2017 and later gained wider recognition after winning Comicstaan 2 in 2019. He went on to build a large following through stand-up comedy and India’s Got Latent.
