Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has praised the web series “Operation Safed Sagar” for bringing the Indian Air Force’s pivotal role in the Kargil War to audiences with authenticity and depth, calling it a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the country’s air warriors.
In a special video message played at the series’ premiere, Singh lauded the makers for reviving memories of the 1999 conflict and highlighting how the Indian Air Force helped change the course of the war.
“Each one of you deserves high praise for bringing this Operation Safed Sagar to life with such vividness and authenticity,” Singh said, adding that the series preserves the courage and legacy of the air warriors for future generations.
He noted that the IAF conducted combat operations at altitudes of 15,000 to 18,000 feet during the Kargil conflict, describing the feat as a demonstration of “indomitable courage”.
Singh also praised the creative team, including producers Sanjay Routray, Sarita Patil and Abhijeet Singh Parmar, director Kushal Shrivastava and the wider team for their research and technical precision.
The Defence Minister said bringing the story to a global platform such as Netflix was a significant achievement and expressed confidence that it would particularly resonate with young audiences.
Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth said the series could inspire the younger generation by showcasing the dedication and courage of the armed forces.
Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said the scale and production of the series demonstrated India’s growing talent, technical expertise and ability to create entertainment capable of standing alongside the best globally.
The grand premiere was held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi and was attended by senior military officials, government dignitaries and members of the cast and crew.
“Operation Safed Sagar” stars Jimmy Shergill, Siddharth, Abhay Verma, Prajakta Koli, Mihir Ahuja and Dia Mirza. The series premieres on Netflix on August 7.
