Punjab Government Cracks Down on Human Trafficking, 7 Travel Agents Arrested: Dhaliwal

Amritsar, 28 February, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Cabinet Minister for Non-Resident Indian Affairs, S. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, announced today that the Punjab government has taken decisive action against travel agents involved in human trafficking. As part of the ongoing campaign, the Punjab Police has inspected 1274 locations and registered cases against 24 travel agents.

In a press conference he stated that 7 travel agents have been arrested since February 5, when the US began repatriating illegal Indian migrants.

He said that 337 Indians living illegally in America have been deported, with 131 being of Punjabi origin.

He described that The Punjab government has reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs, offering assistance in bringing back Indians sent to Panama.

Dhaliwal emphasized the need for a compassionate approach, stating that these individuals are victims of rogue travel agents, not criminals.

Dhaliwal’s statement comes in response to BJP leader Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar’s comments on the issue. The Punjab government has demonstrated its commitment to tackling human trafficking and supporting affected individuals.
