Jharkhand Police have registered an FIR against BJP MLA Satyendra Nath Tiwari of Garhwa over alleged objectionable and derogatory remarks concerning Rupi Soren, mother of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

The case was registered at Ranka police station in Garhwa following a written complaint by Shravan Singh Kharwar, a resident of Gasedag village. Police said the complaint was based on a video containing the alleged remarks, which was first aired on a YouTube channel on September 28 and subsequently circulated on social media.

According to the complaint, the alleged comments were made at a time when Rupi Soren was unwell and undergoing treatment in a hospital. Kharwar told police that the remarks had offended him personally as well as the sentiments of members of the Scheduled Tribe community.

The complainant also informed the police that a recording of the video could be submitted on a pen drive as evidence. He sought action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Police said an FIR has been registered under relevant legal provisions and an investigation is underway. Investigators are examining the video and the circumstances surrounding the alleged remarks.

Police officials said the complete context of the statements and whether further legal proceedings are warranted will be determined after the investigation.

There was no immediate response from Tiwari to the allegations against him.
