The PWD Engineers’ Association has elected a new 35-member executive committee at a meeting held at the GNE Auditorium here on Monday, with engineers from various cadres across Punjab participating in the proceedings.
The meeting was attended by superintending engineers, executive engineers, sub-divisional engineers and engineers from other cadres of the department.
Engineer Nirmal Singh Bhangoo, XEN, was elected president of the association, while Engineer Gurmeet Singh, XEN, was elected general secretary. Other office-bearers for various positions were also elected during the meeting.
The participating engineers reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the government’s financial interests and contributing towards the development of world-class infrastructure for the people of Punjab. Discussions were also held on ensuring more efficient and effective implementation of the government’s public-oriented policies concerning the department.
The meeting also decided to soon hold discussions with senior officials for resolving the pending legitimate demands of departmental employees. Emphasis was laid on raising employees’ issues at the appropriate level and pursuing effective measures for their resolution.
The newly elected office-bearers said the Public Works Department, as a premier engineering department with a rich legacy, would continue to play a leading role in the state’s development while adhering to financial rules and prescribed procedures.
They said every possible effort would be made to improve the department’s functioning and ensure the delivery of quality and better infrastructure to the people.
