Ahmedabad, October 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Left-arm spinner Tanmay Baloda claimed six wickets as India Under-19 gained the upper hand against Australia Under-19 on the opening day of the second Youth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium ‘B’ Ground on Wednesday.

Baloda’s impressive spell helped India bowl Australia out for 174 in their first innings. However, Australia hit back late in the day by removing both Indian openers, leaving the hosts at 38/2 at stumps and still 136 runs behind.

Kushagra Ojha was unbeaten on 13, while India U19 captain Yashbardhan Chauhan was not out on seven.

India opted to field after winning the toss and made an early impact through their pace attack. Priyanshu Singh dismissed Australia captain Matthew Lough for a duck in the second over, before Mohit Ulva had Hayden Barbulovic caught behind in the fifth over to reduce Australia to 9/2.

Neel Patel and Eli Brain attempted to rebuild the innings, but Baloda’s introduction changed the momentum. He broke the partnership by trapping Brain leg before wicket and then had Patel stumped in his following over.

Ayaan Akram added to Australia’s problems by inducing an edge from Blake Cattle, before Baloda dismissed Zed Hollick to leave the visitors six down inside 21 overs.

Charlie Henderson and Jacob Pietz then mounted a recovery, adding 70 runs for the seventh wicket and taking Australia beyond 150. Baloda ended the stand by bowling Pietz for 26, while Akram soon removed Henderson for 37.

Baloda then wrapped up the Australian tail to finish with figures of 6-32 and emerge as India’s standout bowler.

India’s reply began unsteadily. Lakshya Raichandani, who had scored a double century in the opening match of the series, edged Thomas Vaseo behind after making just one run from 22 deliveries.

Leg-spinner Spencer Green then trapped Sagar Virk lbw for 16, leaving India at 38/2. Ojha and Chauhan negotiated the remaining overs without further damage.

Brief Scores:
Australia U19: 174 all out in 73 overs (Charlie Henderson 37, Neel Patel 31; Tanmay Baloda 6-32, Ayaan Akram 2-45)
India U19: 38/2 in 15 overs (Sagar Virk 16, Kushagra Ojha 13 not out; Thomas Vaseo 1-8, Spencer Green 1-12), trail by 136 runs.
