The father of Haryanvi artist Ankit Baliyan, who was shot dead outside a gym in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, has demanded justice and called for the arrest of those responsible for his son’s killing.
Speaking to the media, Baliyan’s father Satbir Singh said he wanted the accused brought to justice and vowed that the protest over the killing would continue.
“I want the man who killed him. I don’t want anything else. The protest will continue,” he said.
Baliyan was attacked by unidentified assailants on Wednesday when he was leaving a gym in Shamli. He sustained multiple gunshot injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
According to media reports, four unidentified attackers fired around 20 rounds over nearly two minutes. Several bullets struck Baliyan and his car. Following the incident, villagers reportedly blocked a road near Verma Market in Shamli, demanding swift action against the perpetrators.
Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the attackers and establish the circumstances surrounding the killing. Baliyan’s family has demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Satbir Singh also said his son had no involvement in any wrongdoing and maintained that he had not harmed anyone.
Baliyan was a recognised name in the contemporary Haryanvi entertainment scene. His digital presence centred on Haryanvi pop music, regional themes and high-energy music videos, helping him build a substantial online following.
His popular tracks included “Ek Khtola Jail Ke Bhitar”, “Savidhan”, “112 NE” and “Haridwar Haryane Ka”. His career gained momentum around 2023, with his music reflecting themes of regional pride, rural identity and the contemporary Haryanvi cultural landscape.
The investigation into his killing is underway.
