Apple has announced September 9 as the date for its annual iPhone-focused event, where the company is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro series and its first foldable iPhone. The event will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
The event, titled “Surprise and shine”, will be the first major Apple product launch under John Ternus, who is set to become the company’s chief executive officer on September 1, succeeding Tim Cook. Cook will become executive chairman.
Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with reports suggesting that the models will retain much of the existing design while receiving hardware upgrades. The standard iPhone 18 is reportedly being held for a later launch, potentially alongside the iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air in 2027.
The Pro models are expected to feature Apple’s A20 Pro chip, reportedly based on a 2nm manufacturing process, along with the company’s C2 cellular modem. A variable-aperture main camera is also among the reported upgrades, while other changes could include a smaller Dynamic Island.
The biggest attraction is expected to be Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which has been widely rumoured to carry the “iPhone Ultra” name. Reports suggest a book-style design with an outer display of about 5.3 to 5.5 inches and an inner screen measuring roughly 7.6 to 7.8 inches.
The foldable could feature Touch ID integrated into the power button instead of Face ID, along with dual rear cameras. Its expected starting price has been reported at around $1,999, although Apple has not confirmed pricing or specifications.
Apple is also expected to refresh its smartwatch lineup, potentially introducing the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. AirPods 5 are also among the products reportedly under consideration for the event.
Apple has not publicly confirmed the individual products or specifications expected to be unveiled at the September event.
