New Zealand Cricket’s international summer has got off to a record-breaking start, with 26,000 tickets sold within the first 48 hours of the Cricket Nation members’ pre-sale.
The surge in demand has been driven by India’s 12-match multi-format tour of New Zealand, which begins in October. The white-ball fixtures at Auckland’s Eden Park have emerged as the biggest attraction in the early sales.
Christchurch’s 9,000-capacity Hagley Oval has also recorded strong demand and is expected to sell out for the opening two T20Is on October 22 and 24. The venue will also host the second and final Test of the tour from November 27 to December 1.
Ticket sales have similarly started strongly in Wellington, where HNRY Stadium will stage the third T20I and second ODI. The opening Test will be played at the Basin Reserve from November 19.
NZC Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer Glenn Critchley said the unprecedented early response reflected the excitement surrounding India’s visit.
“Our message to fans from the start has been to get organised to avoid missing out — and the record sales in the first two days proves many have listened,” Critchley said, as quoted by NZC.
He said the tour would give New Zealand fans an opportunity to experience the atmosphere surrounding matches involving India and watch some of the world’s leading cricketers.
Critchley also noted that ticket prices had been kept unchanged from the previous season, with Cricket Nation members able to purchase tickets for under $30 using their access code.
NZC is also promoting group packages, including ‘The Four’ and ‘The Six’, as well as venue ticket bundles for fans planning to attend multiple matches.
The general public ticket sale is scheduled to begin on September 7. Fans can continue to access the members’ pre-sale by signing up for Cricket Nation, which also offers a 15 per cent ticket discount.
With India’s star-studded tour already generating unprecedented demand, supporters have been encouraged to secure their seats before tickets are released for general sale.
