The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a Tiranga Yatra in Ropar on Sunday as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, with state BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon calling upon people to display the National Flag at their homes, shops and institutions ahead of Independence Day.
The yatra, which passed through various parts of the city, saw BJP leaders and workers carrying the Tricolour and raising messages of patriotism and national unity.
Addressing participants, Dhillon said the programme was not a political event but an initiative to honour the National Flag, which he described as a symbol of the country’s honour, dignity and pride.
He urged people across Punjab to hoist the Tricolour from August 9 to 14 and celebrate Independence Day on August 15 with enthusiasm and patriotic spirit.
“The Tricolour is not merely a piece of cloth. It represents the sacrifices of our martyrs, the valour of our soldiers and the freedom, unity and integrity of crores of Indians,” Dhillon said.
He said Punjab had a long history of sacrifice in both the freedom struggle and the defence of the country. Referring to the contribution of Punjabis, Dhillon highlighted the legacy of heroes such as Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh.
Dhillon said the Tiranga Yatra in Ropar was also aimed at inspiring the younger generation, strengthening national unity and remembering those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
“The Tricolour is a symbol of our identity, our pride and the unity and integrity of our nation. Respecting it is the duty of every Indian,” he said.
The campaign is being held in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative.
BJP leaders Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Parminder Singh Brar and Ajay Veer Singh Lalpura, besides a large number of party leaders and workers, participated in the yatra.
