The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has busted a cybercrime network allegedly operating through fraudulent call centres in Delhi, arresting 21 Telugu-speaking women telecallers and a male bank account holder, officials said.
TGCSB Director Shikha Goel said coordinated raids were conducted at three call centres in Delhi’s Shiva Market as part of the operation. The centres were allegedly being run by three organisers identified as Lalith Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Anil, who are currently absconding.
The arrested persons include team leaders, telecallers and the bank account holder. The network had reportedly been operating for around one-and-a-half years.
According to the TGCSB, the accused recruited young Telugu-speaking women aged between 25 and 40 to establish trust with prospective victims in Telangana. The telecallers allegedly posed as representatives of Bajaj Finance and offered attractive loan approvals before inducing victims to make payments on various pretexts.
Investigators found that several telecallers were from Korutla in Jagtial district, Saidabad and Borabanda in Hyderabad, and Mahabubnagar district.
The accused allegedly followed scripted conversations and demanded money as loan processing fees, verification charges, documentation fees, insurance premiums and other purported charges. After receiving payments, they either stopped responding or continued seeking additional amounts by falsely assuring victims that their loans would be approved.
The investigation also found that victims who sought refunds or questioned the transactions were allegedly threatened with legal action, reputational harm and misuse of their personal information and identity documents. Police suspect the threats were intended to prevent victims from reporting the fraud.
TGCSB officials seized 23 mobile phones and two bank passbooks during the raids. The network has so far been linked to 22 cybercrime cases registered across Telangana, while further investigation is underway.
