Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Monday reviewed security preparedness across Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana and directed district police chiefs to intensify patrolling, surveillance and preventive measures to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations.
Yadav chaired law and order review meetings with officers of the Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana Commissionerates and the Border, Jalandhar and Ludhiana Police Ranges. He reviewed arrangements covering sensitive areas, major urban locations, public congregation points and vital installations.
Beginning his tour in Amritsar, the DGP assessed security arrangements in sensitive border areas and directed police units to maintain heightened vigilance, strengthen preventive measures and increase patrolling and surveillance. He also stressed effective crowd management and the need for a rapid, coordinated response to any emerging threat or law and order challenge.
Yadav said seamless coordination across the security grid and proactive assessment of emerging threats were key priorities ahead of the national event.
In Jalandhar, he reviewed the preparedness of Commissionerate Police Jalandhar and Jalandhar Range, which covers Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and SBS Nagar. He briefed officers on the prevailing threat perception and called for flexible deployment of personnel, high-visibility nakas and swift response mechanisms so that people could celebrate Independence Day without disruption.
The DGP also directed officers to remain alert, accessible and responsive to the public.
In Ludhiana, Yadav reviewed the Independence Day policing plan of Commissionerate Police Ludhiana and Ludhiana Range. He called for visible and effective deployment of personnel and enhanced security at celebration venues and public gathering points.
He also emphasised stronger inter-district coordination and round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any breach of law and order.
