The NDA Parliamentary Party’s ‘Mangal Milan’ meeting began at the Parliament Library Building on Monday as the ruling alliance discussed its strategy for the final two days of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and other NDA MPs attended the meeting.
Members of the ruling alliance arrived at the G.M.C. Balayogi Auditorium for the gathering. MPs of the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), who were earlier associated with the Trinamool Congress, also participated.
The meeting opened with MPs raising “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” slogans while holding the national flag, with Prime Minister Modi also joining the display.
The meeting assumes significance with the Monsoon Session scheduled to conclude on Thursday. The NDA government is preparing to push through several pending Bills even as Opposition parties are expected to maintain protests over a range of contentious issues.
The session has witnessed repeated disruptions over issues including alleged examination paper leaks, police action against students during the July 20 Jantar Mantar protest and the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft case.
Earlier on Monday, amid slogans from the Opposition benches in the Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said Home Minister Amit Shah would make a statement on the students’ protest. He also appealed to Opposition members to participate in the discussion rather than disrupt proceedings.
The Opposition has continued to demand answers from the Home Minister over the alleged police use of force against students who participated in the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march at Jantar Mantar on July 20 over the NEET paper leak and other examination-related irregularities.
The NDA meeting is expected to focus on floor coordination and legislative priorities for the remaining days of the session.
