Indian-American golfer Sahith Theegala endured a difficult final round at the Wyndham Championship, carding a 4-over 74 to finish tied 49th, while Michael Brennan produced a stunning late surge to claim the PGA Tour’s final regular-season title and secure a place in the Playoffs.
Theegala had made an impressive start to the tournament with an 8-under 62, leaving him just one stroke off the lead after the opening round. However, he could not sustain that momentum over the remaining three rounds and finished with scores of 62, 69, 69 and 74 for a six-under 274 total.
Despite the disappointing final round, Theegala, who is backed by Hero, qualified for the Playoffs beginning next week. The 28-year-old, who returned to the tour this season following an injury-hit 2025, finished the regular season 44th in the standings.
Fellow Indian-origin golfer Aaron Rai also made the cut and finished tied 29th at eight under after rounds of 67, 69, 69 and 67. Rai ended the regular season ranked 35th.
Brennan, meanwhile, produced the week’s defining performance. The 24-year-old began the tournament ranked 105th in the standings and had recorded only one top-10 finish during a difficult season.
Starting the final round one shot behind Beau Hossler, Brennan changed the complexion of the tournament with five consecutive birdies from the fourth hole. Each came from putts inside eight feet, giving him a three-shot cushion by the turn after Hossler bogeyed the ninth.
Brennan closed with a 6-under 64 to secure his maiden title and climb dramatically from 105th to 47th in the standings, earning a Playoffs berth in the process.
The top 70 players after the Wyndham Championship qualified for the postseason, with Jackson Koivun narrowly claiming the final spot. The former Auburn player, who turned professional in June and won the 3M Open in only his third PGA Tour start, shot 71 to finish 70th, holding off late challenges from Matt Wallace and Davis Thompson.
Brennan’s breakthrough came after he had suffered late collapses while in contention at both the 3M Open and Rocket Classic. This time, he held his nerve to complete the victory.
Ben James, the No. 1 player in the PGA TOUR University rankings who already has his 2027 PGA Tour card secured, responded to a disappointing Saturday with a spectacular 61 to finish third.
Brennan was the only golfer to move into the top 70, replacing Steven Fisk. Fisk entered the tournament 69th but missed the cut and dropped to 71st.
Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka also failed to qualify for the postseason. Needing at least a fourth-place finish to make the Playoffs, Koepka struggled with his putting again and finished tied 67th, ending a difficult season with just one top-10 finish.
