Malaysia’s Penang Deputy Chief Minister Jagdeep Singh Deo met Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party president Kewal Singh Dhillon in Chandigarh on Monday, with discussions focusing on development, technology, industry and employment opportunities.
A delegation led by Jagdeep Singh Deo held the meeting with Dhillon in the presence of Professor Dr B.S. Bains, president of the International Punjabi Heritage and Cultural Foundation Malaysia, and other leaders.
The discussions covered areas of mutual interest, including regional development, the use of modern technology, industrial growth and the creation of new employment opportunities.
Dhillon said India was progressing rapidly in the economic and social sectors under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and moving towards the goal of “Viksit Bharat”.
He also praised the contribution of Punjabis around the world, saying their dedication, hard work and integrity had earned them recognition and respect internationally.
Dhillon described the prominent role played by Jagdeep Singh Deo and his family in Malaysian politics as a matter of pride for Punjabis.
During the meeting, Jagdeep Singh Deo extended a formal invitation to Dhillon to attend a special inaugural ceremony being organised after the renovation of the historic Wadda Gurdwara Sahib in Penang.
The gurdwara, which is more than 123 years old, holds significance for the Sikh community in Penang. The invitation was extended in connection with the ceremony marking the completion of its renovation.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the wider contribution of the Punjabi community in Malaysia and avenues for strengthening cooperation in development, technology and employment.
