More than 73.50 lakh voters in Telangana could face deletion from the electoral rolls following the completion of the enumeration phase of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with the deadline for submission of enumeration forms ending on Monday.
According to the status report released by the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana has 3,38,26,448 registered electors, of whom 2,64,73,616 submitted their enumeration forms.
The remaining 73,52,832 electors were categorised as Absent, Shifted or Dead (ASD), with their enumeration forms reported as uncollectible.
The digitisation of enumeration forms across Telangana has reached 78.26 per cent. Hyderabad recorded the lowest progress among the districts, with digitisation completed for 58.89 per cent of electors.
Of the 47,36,669 electors registered in Hyderabad, enumeration forms of 27,89,214 voters have been digitised. Consequently, nearly 19.47 lakh electors in the state capital fall under the ASD category and could face deletion from the rolls.
Yadadri Bhuvanagiri recorded the highest digitisation rate among Telangana’s 33 districts, with 94.31 per cent of enumeration forms processed.
The draft electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on August 17. The claims and objections period will run from August 17 to September 16, while their disposal will take place between August 17 and October 15. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 19.
In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, nearly 45 lakh voters were deleted from the electoral rolls after the Election Commission published the draft voter list on July 31 following the SIR exercise.
According to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer, the deleted names included 22.30 lakh electors who had permanently shifted or were found absent, 15.22 lakh deceased voters and 7.37 lakh electors found registered at multiple locations.
Of the 4,16,27,694 electors in Andhra Pradesh, 3,71,38,182 submitted their enumeration forms. The remaining 44.89 lakh electors could not be located by Booth Level Officers or did not submit their forms for various reasons.
