Panic spread in Ferozepur on Thursday after a Government Girls’ School (School of Eminence) received a bomb threat through an unidentified email, prompting police to evacuate the campus and launch a detailed search of the premises as a precautionary measure.
According to the information available, the threatening message was sent to the school’s official email ID from an unknown account. The school management immediately informed the police and administration, following which police teams reached the spot and began a thorough search.
The email reportedly mentioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Punjab on September 30 and threatened to blow up the school.
Following the alert, police searched the school building, classrooms, campus and surrounding areas for any suspicious object. The premises were vacated to ensure the safety of students and staff.
No suspicious object was found during the search, as per the information available.
School Principal Rajesh Mehta said the police were informed immediately after the threatening email was received. Police subsequently reached the school and initiated security checks, while the management took precautionary measures for the safety of students and staff.
Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh said the threat was being taken seriously and an investigation had been launched to identify the sender and establish the source of the email.
“Keeping in mind the security of the students, the school premises had been vacated,” the SSP said, adding that the cyber team was also examining the email to trace its origin.
