Punjab Police on Thursday conducted 521 raids at identified locations linked to associates of gangsters across the state as part of the ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, with 285 individuals arrested and four weapons recovered.
The operation marked the 247th day of the campaign, which was launched by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the objective of making Punjab a gangster-free state.
Police teams from districts across Punjab, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), have been conducting special operations against gangster networks and their associates under the campaign.
On Thursday, 285 individuals were arrested, taking the total number of arrests under ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ to 73,415 since its launch. Police teams also took preventive action against 157 individuals and arrested five Proclaimed Offenders (POs).
Punjab Police urged people to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters, crime and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946, with callers able to provide information anonymously.
Meanwhile, the police continued their anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 572nd day.
On Thursday, police arrested 129 drug smugglers and recovered 7.3 kg of heroin, 6.3 kg of ganja, 72 kg of poppy husk, 1,159 intoxicant pills and Rs 42,420 in drug money.
With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested during the 572-day campaign has reached 79,873.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded 22 individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Thursday.
