The Youth Wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjit has announced the ‘Chardhda Punjab — Punjab Samvad Yatra’, which will begin on October 5 and travel through villages and cities across Punjab before concluding on December 2 with an Ardas at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s Youth Wing chaired by its president Gurjit Singh Talwandi at the Central Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Sector 28, Chandigarh.
Talwandi said the Yatra would focus on direct engagement with Punjab’s youth, including members of Gen Z, and seek their views on issues concerning their future. He said the party intends to incorporate the feedback received during the outreach into its policies.
According to the party, issues from Class 10 education through employment will be addressed systematically, with particular attention to skill development, students’ academic difficulties, fee structures, scholarships and other education-related concerns.
As the first step of the campaign, the Youth Wing launched an online Gen Z form following the meeting.
The party also announced plans to launch ‘Gurdwara Reform Movement-2’, describing it as an initiative concerning what it considers important Panthic issues in Punjab. The date for the launch will be announced separately.
According to the party, the proposed movement will focus on the SGPC elections and what it describes as a decline in Panthic institutions. It also seeks independent Panthic leadership for the SGPC and aims to discuss the traditional process for appointing Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib through coordination with Sarbat Khalsa and other Panthic institutions.
The Youth Wing said the Samvad Yatra would also take up issues including unemployment, agriculture, drugs, federalism and water, while seeking public participation and feedback on Punjab-related matters.
The party further said its Youth Wing would participate in the October 2 march called by the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha seeking the release of Bandi Singhs. It said issues concerning political parties undertaking Pad Yatras in Punjab from Delhi, as well as what it described as the portrayal of Punjab negatively in the name of drugs, would also be raised during the outreach.
The entire Yatra will be conducted under the guidance and supervision of party president Giani Harpreet Singh.
Among those present at the meeting were Amaninder Singh Banni Brar, Navinderpreet Singh Longowal, Charanjit Singh Mavi, Advocate Ravinder Singh Shahpur, Bhupinder Singh, Amritpal Singh Walla, Varinder Singh Dhaliwal, Naveen Sharma Banarsi, Baljit Singh Gulati, Yunus Malik, Randeep Kumar Deepa, Gurikbal Singh Kamalpur, Ranjit Singh Rana, Dr Jagtar Singh Bains, Sukhwinder Singh, Jagjit Singh, Advocate Gur Aadesh Singh Cheema, Didar Singh, Gurdhian Singh, Amandeep Singh, Jagwinder Singh, Navinder Singh, Malkit Singh Hundal, Satnam Singh Satta, Pritam Singh Kussa, Charan Singh Mann and Harmandeep Singh.
The information was released to the press by Media In-charge Tajinder Singh Pannu. The party’s Youth Wing, constituted in July with Talwandi as its president, has since announced a series of state and district-level appointments as part of its organisational expansion.
