International singer Mary Millben extended Independence Day greetings to Indians on Saturday, praising the country’s unity in diversity and calling on citizens to transform their ideas into innovation and challenges into opportunities.
In a video message, Millben reflected on India’s journey since Independence and paid tribute to generations of Indians whose sacrifices and aspirations helped shape the nation.
“Sisters and brothers of India, as you stand on the brink of another Independence Day, let us reflect upon the extraordinary journey that has brought you here,” she said.
Describing India as a nation and civilisation shaped by centuries of diverse cultures, languages and traditions, Millben said the country had remained united under the banner of freedom.
She said Independence Day should serve as a reminder that the spirit of independence was not merely a historical memory but a continuing force guiding India’s future.
Millben urged Indians to embrace the country’s unity in diversity and draw strength from their collective potential. Referring to the national flag, she said saffron represented courage and sacrifice, white symbolised peace and truth, while green represented growth and abundance.
She also highlighted the Ashoka Chakra as a symbol of progress, saying India’s destiny was in the hands of its people.
Millben said India was entering a new phase despite the challenges before it and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu as visionary leaders who, she said, were guiding the country with devotion, resilience and conviction.
She emphasised that every Indian had a role in the country’s development, whether working in science, art, business, governance, agriculture or the armed forces.
Calling on citizens to contribute towards taking India to greater heights, Millben said they should channel their passion into purpose, ideas into innovation and challenges into opportunities.
She also urged Indians to remain committed to justice, equality and progress, saying a nation united around a common purpose could achieve ambitious goals.
“Happy Independence Day, dear Indian sisters and brothers. March into the future with unwavering resolve, knowing that the road ahead is shaped by the actions you take today,” she said.
Millben concluded her message with “Jaya Hind. Jaya Hind. Jaya Hind, India.”
Millben has developed a following among Indian audiences through performances of Indian patriotic and devotional songs. She has also participated in events celebrating India and India-US relations.
