Physics Wallah founder Alakh Pandey on Saturday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of free online coaching for students in need, saying quality education should be available free of cost to every child in India.
Responding to the announcement on his official X account, Pandey said online education could help make quality learning accessible to students in remote towns and villages. He offered his “unconditional support” to the government and said he did not seek any financial benefit in return.
“I really appreciate Prime Minister’s Promise about Free online Coaching for all needy students,” Pandey said, adding that he wanted to see the initiative implemented on the ground because “execution is the main part”.
Prime Minister Modi announced the initiative during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, saying the Union government would provide free online coaching for various competitive examinations.
Modi said the growing competition surrounding coaching centres had placed a significant financial burden on middle-class and poor families. Many parents, he noted, felt compelled to send their children to coaching centres out of concern that they would otherwise fall behind.
The Prime Minister said the initiative was aimed at helping families save the thousands of crores of rupees they spend on coaching each year. He also stressed that young people should have the opportunity to remain closer to their families without adding to their financial burden.
He said India already had the digital public infrastructure, along with talented teachers and educators, needed to support such an initiative.
The announcement comes weeks after youth-led protests over alleged examination irregularities were held in several parts of the country, including a prominent demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
During his Independence Day address, Modi also urged young people to actively participate in the upcoming Census 2027. Calling for an “atmosphere of participation” in every household, he said even one or two hours contributed by each individual could become a significant source of strength for the nation.
