Two killed, several injured as bus runs over pilgrims in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar

Jhalawar, August 16, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Two people were killed and several others injured after an out-of-control private bus ran into a group of pilgrims near Pataliya Pir Dargah valley in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, officials said.

The accident occurred late Saturday when the bus, carrying passengers, reportedly lost control while descending from the upper section of the valley and struck pilgrims gathered along the roadside.

The two deceased have been identified as Abdul Hamid and Rehan, both young men from the Ramganjmandi area of Kota district.

Around half a dozen people were injured in the accident and taken to the district hospital for treatment. One critically injured victim was later referred to Kota for specialised medical care. Some of the injured reportedly suffered serious head and abdominal injuries.

According to eyewitnesses and injured victims, the bus suddenly accelerated while coming down the valley before ploughing into the pilgrims.

One injured victim told reporters that it was a private bus and suggested that its brakes might have failed, although he said he was unsure about the exact cause.

Police have launched an investigation to determine how the bus lost control. Officials are examining the possibility of a mechanical failure, including brake failure, while the precise cause of the accident is yet to be established.

Further details are awaited.
