Chandigarh MP and former Union Minister Manish Tewari on Saturday paid tribute to freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices for the country as he participated in Independence Day programmes at various locations across the city.
A Tiranga Padyatra was organised at the EWS Colony in Maloya, where hundreds of residents carrying the National Flag joined the march led by Tewari and raised patriotic slogans. The Tricolour was subsequently hoisted, and tributes were paid to those who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle.
Addressing the gathering, Tewari called upon citizens to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution and work collectively to strengthen the unity and integrity of the country.
An Independence Day programme was also organised by residents of MIG Flats in Sector 40, reflecting patriotic spirit and community participation.
Speaking at the event, Tewari stressed the importance of protecting constitutional rights and fulfilling civic responsibilities. He also urged people to come forward to strengthen the country’s constitutional institutions. Tewari highlighted the sacrifices made by the Congress Party during the freedom struggle and its contribution towards safeguarding India’s freedom in the years since Independence.
Chandigarh Congress President H.S. Lucky said the party remained committed to promoting communal harmony and brotherhood. Referring to Tewari’s family, Lucky said patriotism was deeply rooted in his background and recalled the sacrifice of his father, Dr. V.N. Tewari, who had laid down his life while working to uphold brotherhood, unity and integrity in the country.
Raja Hindustani, Wasim Mir, Imran Mansoori, Chandramukhi Sharma, Harbans Singh and several other dignitaries were present during the programmes.
