Actor Govinda has responded to public allegations and criticism from his wife, Sunita Ahuja, saying she had earlier persuaded him to appear on her shows through their daughter Tina, but has now urged her to refrain from making statements that could affect his reputation and professional work.
In a video shared on Saturday, Govinda addressed Sunita directly and spoke about their recent public exchanges. He said he had supported her work in the past, including appearing on a food show and a programme during the lockdown after Tina asked him to participate.
“I don’t do the work that I get from outside. And what I am doing, you are interfering in it,” Govinda said, while recalling his earlier appearances on Sunita’s shows.
He alleged that her recent comments were affecting his reputation and business at a time when he had begun work on a new film.
“When I have started this film, you are not leaving any chance for me to get out of people’s hearts, to be defamed, or to lose my business,” he said.
Appealing to Sunita not to humiliate people from modest backgrounds attempting to establish themselves in the film industry, Govinda said fame, wealth and recognition should not be used to demean others.
He also responded to comments concerning the age difference between him and his co-star, arguing that established male actors had historically worked with younger actresses and that such professional pairings had contributed to their careers.
Govinda further referred to the people surrounding Sunita and said he believed their involvement could eventually become public. He also suggested that they might need each other in the future.
“The podcasts that are being run and the insults that are being done, please stay within your limits. This is my request to you,” he said.
Throughout the video, Govinda remained composed while delivering his strongly worded response.
The latest exchange comes after Sunita publicly criticised the actor during discussions surrounding his upcoming film. She referred to actress Komal as Govinda’s “sugar daddy” after he was seen with her. Sunita had previously accused Govinda of having an affair with the actress.
Sunita also criticised Govinda, 62, for appearing with a woman she described as being around their daughter’s age and commented on Komal’s clothing.
The remarks have brought the personal differences between the couple into the public spotlight as Govinda’s upcoming film is being promoted.
