New Delhi, August 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Delhi University students on Saturday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of artificial intelligence (AI) skills training for one crore young people over the next year, saying the initiative could help Indian youth prepare for the rapidly evolving global technology landscape.

Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, Modi announced that the Union government would train 10 million young people in AI skills over the coming year, with the aim of enabling Indian youth to take a leading role in the global AI ecosystem.

He also announced free online coaching for various competitive examinations, particularly benefiting young people from poor and middle-class families.

DU Students’ Union Joint Secretary Deepika Jha welcomed the AI initiative, saying she supported the Prime Minister’s vision of taking India’s youth forward through technology.

“Since PM Modi said that he wants to take the country’s youth forward by connecting them through AI, then I am definitely standing with him on this,” Jha said.

She added that young people across the country would work towards the objective outlined by the Prime Minister.

Another DU student described Modi as an “idol” and “brand ambassador” for India’s youth, saying young people in India as well as elsewhere pay attention to his messages.

The student also highlighted Modi’s technology-oriented approach, saying that as countries across the world embrace AI, the Prime Minister was seeking to ensure that Indian youth progress alongside them.

Another student linked the AI initiative to the government’s broader goal of building a developed India by 2047. He said meaningful youth participation would be essential to achieving that objective.

Referring to government support for startups, the student said young entrepreneurs were receiving opportunities to pursue businesses and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

Another DU student said young people had witnessed changes in India since 2014 and recalled previous government skill-development initiatives. Referring to Modi’s Independence Day announcements, the student said the proposed AI training for one crore youth and free coaching for competitive examinations could provide additional opportunities for young people.
