The Delhi Police Special Staff has busted an alleged illegal gambling den in the Vishnu Garden area of Khyala in west Delhi and apprehended seven people, officials said on Monday.
Acting on information about gambling activities at a premises in NW-1, Vishnu Garden, Khyala, a Special Staff team conducted a raid under the supervision of senior police officers.
Police said seven people were found allegedly involved in gambling and were apprehended at the spot. A search of the premises resulted in the recovery of Rs 18,060 suspected to be stake money and Satta slips. Police also seized 33 quarters of illicit liquor.
The premises is owned by Sobha, wife of Brijpal, who was not present during the raid, according to police. The police said Sobha is a listed bad character (BC) of Khyala Police Station and has 26 previous involvements in criminal cases.
The seven apprehended persons were identified as Sandeep, 37, of Nand Nagari; Arun Kumar, 53, of Khyala; Madan Lal, 38, of Kotla Mubarakpur; Neeraj, 18, of Raghubir Nagar; Mukhtar Singh, 40, of Khyala; Kishan, 45, of Khyala; and Bitu Kumar, 24, of Vishnu Garden.
The apprehended persons and the recovered material were handed over to the Khyala police for further legal action in accordance with law.
The police said the operation formed part of an ongoing drive against illegal gambling and other unlawful activities in the West District. Further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior West District Police officers. DCP West District Hareshwar V. Swami said enforcement action against illegal gambling and other unlawful activities would continue in accordance with law.
